Toxic heavy metals in tampons revealed in study, here's the solution

New research shows that there are toxic metals in tampons. All of these chemicals disrupt the body's endocrine system, which is responsible for regulating sexual development, metabolism, blood sugar, mood, sleep and more.

Previous research has shown that tampons and other menstrual products may contain chemicals such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), plasticizers (also known as phthalates), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are emitted as gases or fragrances by many consumer products.

Recently, a small pilot study found arsenic and lead in both organic and non-organic tampons. Although the amounts were small, there is no safe exposure level for lead, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Globally it was in the news

Worldwide, the research hit the news with many quickly asking concerned questions “What's in it & what can we do about it?” It came to several media outlets: CNN, The Newyork Times & CBC
